Great GPS, larger screen helps w visibility, user friendly Aug 28, 2008 The nuvi 260w is a great GPS. The screen is bright and mapping is intuitive, while the larger 4.3" screen offers much better usability (in my opinion), then the more conventional 3.5" screen GPSs. The points of interest are excellent: they are sorted by types of food, types of retailer, transportation (airports, train stations), etc, and this setup on the Garmin navi's is more intuitive, i feel, than other brands.
As with any GPS, occasionally you will run into situations where the navigator re-routes you in an unconventional way. 98% of the time, though, directions are clear, concise, and voice prompts with street name pronunciations are easy to understand. I would definitely recommend it to family and friends.
Garmin 260W Aug 27, 2008 My husband and I are in our late 50's and really challenged when it comes to anything electronic. When we opened the 260W we just started playing with it and found to our delight that it was very simple and easy to operate. Our Son and family borrowed it for a trip. They entered the address for an amusement park they had been to before and it directed them on a route that was a short cut they didn't know existed! Great product!
AWESOME WAY TO HELP GET AROUND! Aug 26, 2008 I recently purchased this unit and since I moved from Hawaii, it has really helped me get around. Amazon was great and shipped it very quickly. I will definetly buy again on Amazon, They rock!!!
Garmin Nuvi 260W Aug 26, 2008 Purchased two Garmin 260W as gifts for family, after purchasing two other basic Garmins, (a 200W and a street pilot), for my own use. Every Garmin has been simple and straight forward to set up and use and ultra easy to program.
Went on vacation this past summer in the western part of Connecticut. In the points of interest menu I typed in Vineyards and it displayed a number of them with their respective distances from where we were starting out.
Visted three different ones. Came late afternoon and we wanted an inexpensive place to eat and we scrolled through places to eat and about a dozen places within a short ride came up. The Garmin provided info as
to distance and type of food each offered, and
with the resturant phone number. With the phone number and our cell phone we called ahead to check if they were open and check out the menu.
We found one within a short distance of where we were and it took us right to the front door. It was a great off the road and out of the way place. We would not have found this place otherwise.
At the end of the day we selected the address of where we had started that morning and it took us right back to our motel. Only problem, and it is minor, is that on occasion it announces the street names where you are to turn about the same time as you get there.
After a little use, and an ocassional peek at the screen, it all meshed together and you wonder how you lived without it.
it's great Aug 25, 2008 I bought this as a gift for my husband and want one for myself!
It has been extremely helpful and useful a number of times.
I like that it speaks to you as well as shows you with the map and street names.
We got the sandbag for the dash instead of sticking it to the windshield.
